Our client, a major big brand petrol retailer, is looking to expand to new locations Australia-wide to meet customer demand. They’re primarily looking for new sites in rapidly growing urban and regional centres and along major growth corridors, though they’ll also consider development opportunities in established areas that can provide larger facilities, better site access or greater potential for retail and convenience additions.
They’re flexible as to whether the property is freehold, leasehold or requires development. Major building works are also possible, if you have a underperforming property currently used for something else.
The sites should be:
- on a main road or highway, ideally just after a controlled intersection.
- at least 2500 m2 in area.
Population growth in many parts of Australia and increased competition caused by the entry of supermarket chains into petrol retailing has increased the pressure on retailers to control good sites—and good sites are increasingly hard to come by. Higher traffic volume means better economies of scale for petrol operators so key arterial roads are especially in demand.
